Judiciary always worked within its limits: CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry

By Asghar Azad KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday said that the judiciary was struggling to buttress democratic and parliamentary norms and always worked within its limits. Addressing the oath taking ceremony of the entrants of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), he said that the judiciary had closed the door on martial law by voiding November 3, 2007 order. “In any democratic setup the judiciary has to act as an independent institution exercising jurisdictions within its constitutional domain,” he said, adding that the legislature and executive are also independent and they are also bound to exercise their authorities. “Judiciary is the custodian of constitution and has to check constitutional deviation and arbitrary uses of power by other institutions,” he said. “In the present democratic setup, judiciary is trying to buttress democratic and parliamentary norms and it has never tried to assume the role of the exe

Mehmoodul Hassan, Khalid Mumtaz elected as KBA president, General Secretary

Khalid Mumtaz General Secretary KBA Mehmoodul Hassan advocate has been elected as the president of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA), as per unofficial results. Polling for the bar elections- 2012 took place on Saturday in which 5,633 registered lawyers cast their votes. Mehmoodul Hassan and Salahuddin Gandapur were vying for the slot of president. According to unofficial results, Nasir Mehmood was elected vice-president, Khalid Mumtaz general secretary, Shazia Manzoor joint secretary, Naeem Memon treasurer and Shazia Latif as librarian.(DN Report)

KBA Elections 2011: Mohammed Aaqil elected president, Haider Imam Rizvi as secretary

KBA elections to be held tomorrow

The annual elections of Karachi Bar Association KBA for the year 2010-2011 will be held tomorrow (December 4) for office bearers and the members of the Managing Committee. Chief Election Commission District & Sessions Judge Sadiq Hussain Bhatti will supervise the election process. According to the election commission 58 candidates are in the field for 21 posts of KBA. Tough contest is likely to be witnessed for some posts, as the candidates are claiming supports of the majority of members.
