Rights can be protected only if judiciary is independent: Justice Isa

By   Jamal Khurshid Supreme Court senior judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa Saturday said fundamental rights of citizens could only be protected if judiciary remains independent and judicial system disassociates itself from the administration. Addressing the annual dinner of Karachi Bar Association at city courts, he said superior courts had also been entrusted responsibilities to protect fundamental rights of citizens. He said the preamble of Constitution of Pakistan clearly mentions that sovereignty over the entire universe belongs to Almighty Allah alone and the state shall exercise its powers and authority through the chosen representatives of people. He said judges should only be fearful of Almighty Allah, the Constitution and the law and nothing else. KBA Elections 2011: Mohammed Aaqil elected president, Haider Imam Rizvi as secretary

KBA elections to be held tomorrow

The annual elections of Karachi Bar Association KBA for the year 2010-2011 will be held tomorrow (December 4) for office bearers and the members of the Managing Committee. Chief Election Commission District & Sessions Judge Sadiq Hussain Bhatti will supervise the election process. According to the election commission 58 candidates are in the field for 21 posts of KBA. Tough contest is likely to be witnessed for some posts, as the candidates are claiming supports of the majority of members.
